# Update Demographic Information for SFUSD Participants

Sometimes you may need to make updates or changes to participant records you have uploaded or manually created in CMS. Below are steps for making changes or updates through the Data Upload Tool.

**Ensure that each participant you wish to upload into CMS has a participant record. Obtain participant Person IDs.**

**Run the ‘Participant, Parent & Staff Extract’ from the CMS Data Extracts tab.**

**Select Youth for ‘Participant Type’ and Incomplete under ‘Registration’.**

**Select Generate. Open the downloaded file and identify Person ID located in Column B.**

**Download the ‘DCYF SFUSD Student Demographic Upload Template’ from the CMS *****Resources***** tab - *****Upload***** section.**

**Populate Person ID in the upload template.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Populate the rest of the columns for each participant by selecting values in the drop-down menus.**

**Save the upload template to your computer.**
{% endstep %}

**Click on the Upload tab in the left-hand menu in CMS.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Click on the Choose File button in the Data Upload Tool.**

**Select the upload template file you would like to upload. This will upload the file to the Data Upload Tool.**

**Select the ‘DCYF SFUSD Student Demographic Upload’ for Type.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Click on the Begin Upload button in the Data Upload Tool.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**(If applicable) Review any error messages, make appropriate changes and repeat steps 7-11.**
